What does it take to create a Wellness Revolution? Why is right now the perfect time for a revolution? Over the past decade health and wellness corporations around the world are scrambling for answers to a demanding population who wish to live healthier. Unfortunately, that leaves the consumer at risk for fraudulent products, useless inventions/interventions, and professionals who lack the up-to-date knowledge necessary to undertake this need. We have seen all too often the egregious manner in which the Wellness Industry, as a whole, has preyed on consumer's desires for a healthier lifestyle. Little information and little knowledge is a pretty good formula for BIG TROUBLE.
As a Physical Therapist, I have come across many patients who have been hurt performing exercises incorrectly, given tasks they weren’t ready for or were improperly instructed on. Now, as a medical professional, if we caused such harm it would be “off with our heads” and would possibility even face a lawsuit. I think you know where I am going with this. Enough said! (see Justin’s Journey and Justin's Biography for more about me)
As you can see from above, there seems to be a disconnect from the various aspects of health care from the medical, rehabilitative, and fitness professions. All of these integral components make up TRUE WELLNESS. What is True Wellness? Ideally it should be the intersection and connections of your total well being. But it’s not… So this is the Revolution! What’s my answer? I plan to bridge the rehabilitative and fitness aspects to the best of my abilities.
Technically people in my profession would say that I am an “expert” but I am saying that this term “expert” is over used and is completely arbitrary. What I have adopted for myself is what we call a Beginners Mind, in that I will always have a drive to gain more knowledge. “101” classically signifies the beginning.
We now have a Wellness Revolution on our hands. My pledge to you is that my knowledge will be yours and that together we will continue to learn and explore new and up-to-date concepts in practice and in application.
